Artisan

Responding to the Market Demand Strategy (MDS), Transnet Engineering has over the years positively contributed to the country’s alleviation of scarcity of resources by training and capacitating individuals to be competent and skilled in a variety of trades.

Through the School of Engineering (SOE), registered with Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA), MERSETA and SAMSA, the Transnet Apprenticeship programme was started to train learners for a period of 36 months where they become competent Artisans in the following trades: Electrician, Armature Winder, Electrical Fitter, Welder, Tool Maker, Sheet Metal, Millwrights (single trade), Turner Machinists, Wagon Electrical Fitter. On completion of their respective trade curricula, the students are offered the opportunity to undergo a trade test where they become qualified Artisans.

To date, TE has successfully trained competent Artisans for the country, particularly the industry, for immediate employment. These individuals are fully qualified, have passed their trade tests and have been equipped with theory, practical training and On the Job training (OJT).
